Synopsis

The true story of a German army deserter after he finds an abandoned Nazi captain’s uniform in the final weeks of World War II. Emboldened by the authority the uniform grants him, he amasses a band of stragglers who cede to his command despite the suspicions of some. Citing direct orders from the Fuhrer himself, he soon takes command of a camp holding German soldiers accused of desertion and begins to dispense harsh justice.

This means there’s very little in the way of contenders for Pick of the Week with only one release worth considering, a Canadian show, Frankie Drake Mysteries: Season 1. This does mean I get to give out a Puck of the Week, for best Canadian release. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: Will Any Release Solve the Box Office Puzzle?

July 27th, 2018

Puzzle

We are entering the dog days of summer, which means there are not a lot of limited releases. It’s too late to get a boost from summer vacations while trying to expand, but it is way too early for Awards Season buzz. There are some films that could find smaller audiences in theaters, like Scarred Hearts or Puzzle, but I don’t expect any of them to earn any real measure of mainstream success. More...
