Comp Analysis
A custom comparable-films report built around a project you’re financing, distributing, or pitching. The deliverable is designed to support the analysis section of a private placement memorandum, a distribution strategy deck, a festival positioning paper, a sales-agent brief, or a business plan submitted to investors.
What the report covers
- A set of approximately 20 comparable films, selected jointly with you
- Domestic and international theatrical performance for each
- P&A spend (actuals where publicly reported; estimates otherwise)
- Downstream revenue across TV, home video, and ancillary windows
- Investor-scenario modeling based on the comp set’s actual performance
Delivered as an Excel spreadsheet and a PDF report.
Who commissions one
Production companies, financiers, sales agents, distributors, and individual filmmakers who need an independent third-party analysis to support a financial conversation—typically when assembling a PPM, finalizing a slate decision, or preparing for a market.
How comp selection works
We start from the project’s budget tier, genre, distribution model, tone, theme, setting, and key cast. Where useful we also match on more specific signals: character archetype, source material, festival circuit, or P&A bracket. You sign off on the final 20 films before the analysis begins.
Selected clients and projects
The Numbers has been preparing custom film-finance research for more than 25 years. Past engagements range from major-studio franchise planning (the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise) through independent theatrical releases (Spring Breakers, Manchester by the Sea) to corporate strategy work for distributors and streamers including Apple TV and Angel Studios. Clients range from major studios to first-time filmmakers working on low-budget features.
How to commission a report
