Theater counts: Uncharted tops the list for one more week while Studio 666 and Cyrano debut

Situated between the blockbuster releases of Uncharted and The Batman, this week’s newest wide releases are aiming at more targeted demographics, and they couldn’t be more different. Romantic musical Cyrano and horror comedy Studio 666 arrive in theaters this week. Uncharted stays this week’s widest release, keeping its opening count of 4,275 locations.
The musical adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s classic play, United Artists’, Cyrano tells the story of Cyrano de Bergerac as he pines for the affections of the beautiful Roxanne, who has fallen in love with another man. Starring Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett and Kelvin Harrison, Jr., the Joe Wright-directed movie is set to land in 797 theaters. Opening in 2,306 locations this week is Studio 666. The horror comedy stars the legendary band, The Foo Fighters, who while struggling to record their tenth album at an Encino, California mansion are forced to battle the supernatural forces within the haunted house. The film is the first non-documentary the band has appeared in, which also casts Whitney Cummings, Jeff Garlin, and Lionel Richie as himself.
Uncharted took in a strong $51 million over the four-day holiday weekend and currently sits on nearly $58 million domestically, and stays the film in widest release. Rounding out the top five by theater count this week are Dog in 3,827 locations, Death on the Nile in 3,420 theaters, Marry Me in 3,110 locations and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which adds six locations to land in 3,002 theaters this week.
Opening in limited release this week are the annual Oscar Shorts. Included are numerous Oscar-nominated short films from the live action, animation and documentary categories. Also opening this week is Butter and The Godfather: 50 Years. The former, from Blue Fox Entertainment follows a lonely obese teenager who decides to eat himself to death, live on the internet, while everyone watches. Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures is bringing The Godfather back to the big screen in 156 locations.
As previously mentioned, looking ahead to next week we see the long-awaited arrival of The Batman. Robert Pattinson plays the the role of billionaire recluse Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman. The latest iteration of the franchise features the crime-fighter during his second year of fighting crime as he pursues the Riddler (played by Paul Dano). Zoe Kravitz and Colin Farrell co-star as Catwoman and Penguin respectively. The film, directed by Matt Reeves, is estimated to debut in 4,300 theaters starting Friday, March 4th after playing exclusively in 350 IMAX locations beginning Tuesday, March 1st. Alternatively, the superhero film will be available to stream on HBO Max 45 days after its theatrical release.
