Great and Powerful Streaming Releases to Love

There are several interesting new releases on the streaming platforms this week. The biggest of these is Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which debuted on Disney+ on Friday. The latest stand-up comic special by Patton Oswalt, I Love Everything, hits Netflix on Tuesday, and I bet it will be great. There are also two TV shows worth checking out, The Great on Hulu and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix.

Disney+
I liked this movie more than the average critic did, but it is weaker than its predecessor was. The film debuted on Disney+ on Friday, so if the weak reviews caused you to hold off on this one and you already have Disney+, then now is the time to check it out.
Netflix
A stand-up comic special by Patton Oswalt, who is one of the few stand-up comics I still pay attention to. I used to watch a lot of comedy specials, but that was a long time ago. There are still no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes for this one, but I would bet the reviews will be overwhelmingly positive when they do show up.
Amazon Prime or Amazon Prime (Ultra HD)
Kristen Stewart is an amazing actress; however, her choice in projects isn’t always the best. Case in point, she was praised for her performance in this movie, but the overall reviews were subpar. If you like Kristen Stewart and you have Amazon Prime, then it might be worth checking out, but that’s as enthusiastic as I can get.
Netflix
David Spade stars as a man who goes on a blind date with a woman, played by Molly Simms. They hit it off and he begins texting her. He decides to invite her to a company retreat, but when she gets there, he realizes he was texting a different women, Lauren Lapkus. This could be a fun premise for a romantic comedy. However, while the critics mostly agree that Lauren Lapkus is great in the movie, most of them also agree she’s the only highlight in the movie.
Netflix
A reality TV show where teams of florists, sculptors, etc. try to create the best garden sculptures. I’m not in the target audience of the show, but it was described as a friendly competition, so at least I could watch it and not get angry. It arrives on Netflix on Monday.
Hulu
Elle Fanning stars as Catherine, who is married off to Peter, future Emperor of Russia. It was not a happy marriage and when Catherine learns that if Peter were to die, she would rule Russia, she decides to make it happen. The reviews are strong and this show has louder buzz than most on this week’s list, so it could be a hit for Hulu.
Disney+
Bill Farmer is a voice actor who provides the voices for Goofy and Pluto, among other characters. In this show, he travels around and meets various working dogs. There are no reviews and I’m not in the target audience, so I can’t really judge it by its trailer.
Netflix
The fifth and final season of this show. I’ve only seen the first three seasons, but if it ends on a strong note, then it will be seen by many as one of the best animated shows of the past couple of decades. It really is that good.

A TV series about the friendship between three women in the south. It is based on a series of novels by prolific writer Sherryl Woods. The show has no reviews, but fans of the books should at least check it out. It’ll be on Netflix on Tuesday.

Laura Haddock stars as Zoe Walker, a woman whose brother died after disappearing from the resort town of Ibiza. She travels there to investigate his death. The reviews are good, but not great. That said, it’s a Netflix show, so if you already have Netflix and like mystery shows like this, it is worth watching the first episode to see if you are into it.
