Theater Averages: The Square Squirreled Away $18,558
November 1, 2017
The Square was the only film in the $10,000 club this past weekend. The latest from Ruben Ostlund earned an average of $18,558 in four theaters. This is a better opening than his last film, Force Majeure, which earned more than $1 million domestically. Hopefully this one will do the same.
There were a few other new limited releases that did well, led by God’s Own Country, with an average of $8,884 in two theaters. Novitiate was next with an average of $7,575 in three theaters. Meanwhile, Bill Nye: Science Guy earned $7,005 in one theater, which is excellent for a documentary. Another documentary, Mansfield 66/67, was next with $6,451, also in one theater. The widest limited release of the week was Let There Be Light. It earned $1.73 million in 373 screens for an average of $4,637. This isn’t enough to warrant serious expansion, but it is good enough that most theater owners will keep it around for more than a few weeks. The Divine Order struggled with an average of $2,203 in two theaters, while Brimestone and Glory was right behind with $2,125 in its one theater.
Sadly, there were a quartet of new releases that missed the Mendoza Line ($2,000/theater). Félicité came the closest with $1,713 in one theater, while The Work was close behind with an average of $1,643 in two theaters. All I See is You was playing in way too many theaters, 283 to be exact, but only managed an average of $509. Finally, there’s Amityville: The Awakening. This film only managed a total of $742 in ten theaters for an average of $74.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:
