New releases were not plentiful on the this week's sales chart, but while only three charted, those that did grabbed all but one of the top four spots.
This includes the new number one, Good Luck Chuck, which sold 587,000 units for opening week revenue of $9.98 million.

The early year doldrums continue on the home market front. Even though there are plenty of releases, including eight spotlight reviews, there are none that really jump out as Contenders for DVD Pick of the Week. Family Guy - Blue Harvest Special Edition could be called the best of a weak bunch, but odds are everything the disc will be included in a future release that will be a lot more competitively priced.
(On the other hand, if you want the cool physical extras, grab the Limited Edition release.)

It was a rather predictable weekend with no result shocking analysts too much.
Overall, we did see a rather large boost in the box office as the weekend ticket sales were close to $98 million, which was a 24% jump from the last weekend.
However, it was also roughly 1% lower than the same weekend last year. This means 2007's winning streak is over (assuming nothing significant changes after the chart is certified later in the week), but year-to-date there has been a 7% growth over last year and we are still on a record-setting pace.

The weekend was, for the most part, very predictable with The Brave One opening a little softer that expected while D-War opened a little stronger. However, overall there are not many surprises worth talking about. This includes the overall box office, which brought in $79 million over the weekend. This was 1% lower than last weekend, but 1% above the same weekend last year. However, at this pace the box office's winning streak over last year will end next weekend.

The Fall season delivered another soft weekend at the box office, with only one movie topping $10 million and the top 10 movies combining for little more than $60 million.
The Brave One made an estimated $14.015 million, which was comfortably enough to top the chart ahead of 3:10 to Yuma's second weekend gross of $9.15 million -- down a very respectable 35% from its opening.

A stronger week for website than we've seen in a few weeks, including the launch of a potential fall blockbuster. However, that site is mostly marked coming soon allowing Elizabeth - The Golden Age - Official Site to take the Weekly Website Award this week.

The September slump continues as none of the three wide releases look all that promising. The best of the bunch, The Brave One, is earning only average reviews, and we could have not a single film topping 50% positive.

After a record-breaking summer, we come to the worst month of the year. There are a few films that look promising, but for the most part the month is filled with projects that should probably never been given the greenlight to begin with. September is a dumping ground for failed projects, and like most similar times of the year, it is crowded with 20 movies that at least have a shot at opening or expanding wide over a period of just four weeks. Five new releases a week is far too many, even if they were all high quality at least half will fail just due to the competition.

Currently I am taking a vacation and because of that the release dates update will be irregular at best. Things should be back to normal (weekly updates on Sunday) starting Sunday January 21. If I have some time, like today on a rainy day in Singapore, I will try to make updates.

Good week for websites, but most were smaller updates or new sites with just a few features. Two sites,
Happy Feet -
Official Site and
The Prestige -
Official Site, stood out above the crowd, but both will need a few more update to take home the Weekly Website Award.
