Synopsis
After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

After a solid $67-million opening, Black Adam will continue at the top of the box office chart this weekend, even with a steep drop in its second outing. Prey for the Devil looks likely to finish in third place this weekend, although its box office prospects may improve a little as the weekend goes on and Halloween draws closer.

After 44 years and 14 films, the Halloween franchise ends this weekend with the appropriately-titled Halloween Ends. Of course, horror franchises have a habit of rising from the grave, so the demise of the franchise is a very tentative prediction. Its box office prospects look a little clearer though, with an opening around $50 million looking very much on the cards.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a straight up live action (with a touch of CGI) family film in theaters. Arguably the last one was Clifford the Big Red Dog, which opened with $16.6 million in November last year. Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is hoping for a debut somewhere in that ballpark this weekend, but, while it’s a strong favorite to come top of chart, our model thinks it might struggle to get there. Amsterdam provides it with some competition, but Smile is looking like the only other film that still has a shout at beating Lyle and topping the chart.

After a $19-million opening for The Woman King two weeks ago, and a $19.4-million debut for Don’t Worry, Darling last weekend, Smile is hoping to become the first film of the Fall Season to crack $20 million on opening weekend.
