The top three films in theaters this week are somewhat of an anomaly in terms of their box office results versus their theater counts. The widest release of the week is Warner Bros.’, Those Who Wish Me Dead, which opened in 3,188 locations, and likely play in something similar this weekend, but took in the least at the box office ($2.83 million). Another newcomer, Spiral, took the top spot at the box office with $8.75 million, but had the lowest theater count of the three at 2,811. It will gain 185 new venues this week. In the middle was Wrath of Man, which pulled in $3.7 million from 3,007 locations and remains in those theaters for a second weekend. Those films will go largely unchallenged this week as the only new wide release is Bleecker Street’s Dream Horse. The film based on a true story and starring Toni Collette and Damian Lewis opens in 1,256 locations...

In my opinion, Homeland was the best new release of last year. I am not alone in that opinion. In fact, given its performance at the Golden Globes and the Emmys, many, many people thought it was the best show, period. This is a double-edged sword, on the other hand, as it means there are incredible expectations for season two. Can it possibly live up to season one? Does it get even better?

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone, there are still plenty of shopping days from now till Christmas. Like every year, we have a Holiday Gift Guide, starting with Part I, which focused on first run releases and franchise box sets. Part II focuses on TV on DVD releases. Like years past, we will be focusing on TV on DVD releases for shows making their debut on the home market, or for full season sets. That's not to say those are the only shows worth buying as gifts, but if you know someone who loved Futurama, then you don't need me to tell you Volume 7 would make a good gift or not.
