December 31st, 2019

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

I’m going to start this list by saying I don’t know if any of the DVD / Blu-rays on this week’s list are actually coming out on Tuesday. December 31st is a Tuesday, so it would make sense that something is coming out; however, December 31st is also a placeholder date and it is possible that any number of these releases were given that placeholder date by Amazon and then they forgot to update it. There are almost no releases on this week’s list that most people will have heard of, with the main exception being Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which is only coming out on Video on Demand. The Blu-ray is currently in my Blu-ray player and I hope to get the review done over the weekend. If I stick with my usual rules about what gets featured on this list and what is relegated to a secondary title, then there would be almost nothing to talk about, so I’m including a few releases that aren’t even in the top 10,000 on Amazon’s sales rankings and I’m not bothering with any secondary releases. I promise next week will be more normal. More...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

It’s a short week for one reason: Star Wars: The Last Jedi is coming out on DVD / Blu-ray / 4K Ultra HD and no one really wants to deal with that competition. That’s not to say there are no other releases worth picking up. Last Men in Aleppo is an Oscar nominated documentary and worth picking up. In the end, The Last Jedi was the clear Pick of the Week winner. More...

Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: The Last Movie Star

March 25th, 2018

The Last Movie Star

The Last Movie Star is about an aging movie star, played by Burt Reynolds, who has to come to terms with their autumn years. This is far from a unique setup. However, just because a movie deals with subject matter we’ve seen before doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. Is it better than other recent examples of this film? More...

Limited Release: Oscars are the Star of the Week

January 30th, 2015

Timbuktu poster

The list is a little shorter than usual, not because there are few limited releases coming out this week, but because we have a spotlight review for one of them. So to keep things a little more manageable, I'm going to focus on films that are either earning great reviews, or that earned some pre-release buzz. Speaking of great reviews, Timbuktu is living up to its Oscar nomination with 97% positive reviews. Also coming out this week are the Oscar Nominated Shorts, so fans of short films should rush out to theaters. More...

Featured TV on DVD Review: Archer: Season Three

January 7th, 2013

I've reviewed the previous two seasons of Archer and quite frankly, I think it's one of the best animated shows on TV at the moment. Can season three live up to the first two seasons? Or will the show finally show signs of leveling off? More...
