The BAFTA winners were announced on Sunday and there were a few surprises, including the number one winner. The Grand Budapest Hotel took home five awards, while Boyhood, The Theory of Everything, and Whiplash earned three each.

Notes and Reactions...

• The Grand Budapest Hotel earned five wins, many of them in the technical categories. On the other hand, of its three wins, Boyhood earned two of the most prestigious awards.
• Birdman only won once out of ten categories it was nominated in, which is disappointing for me, because I really want it to come out on top on Oscar night. I especially want Michael Keaton to win for Best Lead Actor, but that seems unlikely now.
• On the other hand, The Michael Keaton / Eddie Redmayne race is by far the closest of the four acting categories.
• I wanted Big Hero 6 to win for Best Animated Film, but The LEGO Movie winning is in no way a shock.
• I really wanted Gugu Mbatha-Raw to win rising star, as her rise the past two years seems the sharpest out of the nominees.
