Spider-Man: No Way Home

As the Christmas holiday approaches, there are plenty of options for movie-goers. The only question is what to watch? Spider-Man: No Way Home opened last Friday and took nearly everyone by surprise as it posted an opening domestic weekend of $260 million, placing itself between 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War as the second-biggest opening of all time. The film is currently showing in 4,336 locations, which makes it the 30th-widest opening of all time, just behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Spider-Man: No Way Home might not be challenged at the box office, but there are still a wide array of films for every interest.

Those releasing today include the sequel to the 2016 animated smash hit, Sing. Voiced by an accomplished cast including Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, John C. Reilly and many more, Universal PicturesSing 2 will launch today in 3,892 theaters across North America. Also opening today is the long-awaited sequel, The Matrix Resurrections. The last Matrix film to land in theaters was 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions, which grossed $427 million worldwide—the lowest of the three previous Matrix films. The franchise now sits at over $1.6 billion worldwide with the release of the latest installment in select territories last week. The film is playing on 3,552 traditional and IMAX screens.

Lastly, The King’s Man is set to release in a solid 3,125 locations. The film, directed by Matthew Vaughn, stars a bevy of actors including Ralph Fiennes and Gemma Arterton. The film is a prequel to the successful Kingsman: Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

Releasing on Christmas Day is the Michael B. Jordan, Chanté Adams drama A Journal for Jordan. The film, which is directed by Denzel Washington, charts the true story of First Sergeant Charles Monroe King, a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son. A Journal for Jordan is set to arrive in an estimated 2,500 theaters. Also opening on Saturday is American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story. The inspirational sports drama stars Zachary Levi as the St. Louis Rams quarterback. Anna Paquin and Dennis Quaid co-star. Lastly, after opening limited in late November, Licorice Pizza expands from four locations to 750 this weekend. The 1970s comedy/drama has so far earned $1.3 million during its limited box office run.
