Theater counts: Despite two new wide releases, The Croods remains on top… for now
December 17, 2020
The Croods: A New Age has been the widest release since its debut in late November and this week is no exception, despite dropping below 2,000 theaters for the first time. The animated feature will have to take a back seat next week however as a plethora of wide releases are set to open, including the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984. Two newcomers arrive in theaters this week in the form of Sony Pictures’ Monster Hunter, arriving in 1,736 theaters, and Lionsgate’s Fatale in 1,107 venues. From the creative minds at Jim Henson Productions, Walt Disney is re-releasing the 1992 family comedy The Muppet Christmas Carol as Kermit and friends tell their version of the Charles Dickens classic. The film opens in 725 locations this week. As of now, we only have one estimated theater count for Christmas Day: Promising Young Woman is expected to arrive in 1,200 theaters. We will update Wonder Woman 1984, News of the World and Pinocchio as we receive them.
Here are the numbers for this weekend…
