Theater counts (updated): Honest Thief leads four new wide releases
October 15, 2020
Open Road’s Honest Thief takes center stage in theaters this weekend as it debuts in 2,425 locations and seeks to knock The War with Grandpa off the top of the chart, but it’s just one of four films debuting in wide release—the most in a single weekend since theaters started opening up. The other three are The Nightmare Before Christmas, which will be attempting to capitalize on the surprise strength of family-friendly films recently, 2 Hearts, which will test the viability of date-night movies, and The Kid Detective, which will hope for an audience not captured by those other films.
We also have an estimated theater count for The Empty Man, which at least confirms that the film will be playing in theaters, even though its marketing has been almost non-existent.
Here are the numbers…
Friday update: Along with some additional updates, Paramount have announced that Love and Monsters will play in 387 theaters, as well as launching on VOD today.
