DEG Watched At Home Chart: Invisible Man Avoids the Spotlight

The Invisible Man came out on DVD / Blu-ray / 4K last week, but that wasn’t enough to overtake Sonic the Hedgehog on the DEG Watched at Home chart this week. Sonic the Hedgehog has done so well at the box office and now on the home market that I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an army of interns at Paramount Pictures going over every Sega video game ever made to see what else can be turned into a movie. My top three choices are, in alphabetical order, Altered Beast, Arabian Fight, and Golden Axe. Streets of Rage did just get a new installment, so the property could be hot. I could see that video game franchise successfully turned into a Rumble in the Bronx-style film.

The only film in the top five this week that wasn’t in the top five last week was The Invisible Man, which rose 12 spots to second place. The film is easily the most successful low-budget horror movie to come out this year and there was a ton of competition in that genre. Way too much competition. It was also one of five Universal releases in the top twenty this week, putting it one ahead of Sony and Warner Bros. in that race.

Birds of Prey slipped a spot to third place this week. While the film wasn’t as big a hit as Warner Bros. would have liked, it still did well enough to break even.

Like last weekend, Sony rounded out the top five this weekend. However, while Bad Boys for Life remained in fourth place, Jumanji: The Next Level rose four spots to earn fifth place.

There were no new releases in the top twenty, but Rick and Morty: Season Four did return to the chart in 16th place.
