Streaming Releases: Fight for Your Right to Screen Movies and TV Shows
April 25, 2020
It’s a good week for streaming services with several films / TV shows that have me interested. This includes Beastie Boys Story, a documentary debuting on Apple TV+, as well as Never Have I Ever, a new Netflix TV show.

Apple TV+
A rockumentary about the Beastie Boys directed by Spike Jonze. The film is earning 95% positive reviews and part of me is a little surprised its Tomatometer Score isn’t a little higher.
Netflix
A documentary about the Circus of Books, a gay bookstore that has been an icon in the LGBT community for decades. The film has 100% positive reviews, so fans of documentaries will want to check it out.
Netflix
This movie has the most reviews on this week’s list, which strongly suggests it has the most buzz. It certainly has star power. However, its Tomatometer Score is merely good, but not great.
YouTube
A documentary that debuted on Earth Day on YouTube. The film’s reviews are good, and if you are interested in a documentary with an environmental focus, then it is worth checking out.
Netflix
Two kids decide they would be better off raising themselves, so they send their parents on vacation. This animated film is earning excellent reviews and if you are in the market for a new family film, this is your best bet for a while.
Netflix
TV shows usually earn much better reviews during their second season than they earned during their first, because critics that didn’t like the first season are less likely to review the second. However, this show’s Tomatometer Score dropped. That’s a really bad sign.
Apple TV+
When a D.A. learns his son was charged with murder, he does everything in his power to protect him, regardless of whether or not he thinks he’s son is guilty. It is an interesting premise, but the show’s reviews are mixed with a lot of critics saying the show didn’t need to last 8 episodes to tell a compelling story.
Netflix
This is a very weak entry in an otherwise great franchise. I would stick with the other animated adaptations of the source material.
Netflix
A historical action TV series that looks at the conflict between the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. The reviews are solid, so if you liked the recently ended Vikings, then you will likely want to catch up on this one.
Netflix
A coming-of-age comedy about an overachieving Indian American teenage girl. The reviews are 100% positive and not only that, the average review score is nearly 8 out of 10, so many of those positive reviews are very enthusiastic.
Netflix
A reality TV competition show where a group of people try and win a house in the remote Alaskan wilderness. Normally I hate shows like this, but this one is made by the BBC and I don’t think it is part of the more cringy part of the genre. I’m still not interested in seeing it, but I don’t think I would actively hate it if I had to watch it.
