Theater Averages: Real Horse Race on Top of the Chart

The Mustang topped the theater average chart with an average of $17,914 in four theaters. Last week’s number one film, Captain Marvel, slipped to second with a still impressive average of $15,775. The final film in the $10,000 club was The Aftermath with an average of $11,284 in five theaters.
There were a lot of other new limited releases, but most of them struggled. The Hummingbird Project was the best of the rest with an average of $8,551 in four theaters, while No Manches Frida 2 was right behind with an average of $8,117 in 472 theaters. No other limited releases were even close. Frantz Fanon: Black Skin, White Mask opened with $3,278 in one theater. Faith, Hope, and Love was close behind with an average of $3,078 in 18 theaters. The Eyes of Orson Welles and Knife + Heart were neck-and-neck earning averages of $2,372 and $2,364 respectively.
There were a trio of films that missed the Mendoza Line. Off Season came the closest with an average of just $1,268 in two theaters. Combat Obscura was relatively close behind with an average of $1,011 in ten theaters. Finally, Iceman was well back with just $196 in seven theaters.
