2018 - Awards Season: WGA - Winners

The Writers Guild of America announced their winners last night and I don’t know what to say. None of the favorites won and two of the winners were not even nominated for Oscars.

The categories and winners are...

Best Original Screenplay

• Bo Burnham for Eighth Grade

• Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty for Can You Ever Forgive Me?

• Ozzy Inguanzo and Dava Whisenant for Bathtubs Over Broadway

• Bo Burnham won Best Original Screenplay for Eighth Grade. The only other nominee that would have been a bigger shock winning was A Quiet Place.
• Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty won for Can You Ever Forgive Me?. Again, only one other nominee, Black Panther, was seen as a wider long shot.
• None of the documentary nominees were even nominated for an Oscar, so while Ozzy Inguanzo and Dava Whisenant should really celebrate winning for Bathtubs Over Broadway, this result has no impact on what will happen Oscar night.
