Theater Averages: Box Office is Full of Grace
April 18, 2018
Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami had the best opening of the limited releases earning an average of $18,724 in three theaters. The only other film in the $10,000 Club was The Rider, which earned an average of $14,081, also in three theaters.
There were several other new limited releases that did rather well. Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum was the best of the rest with an average of $9,509 in two theaters. Zama and Hitler’s Hollywood were very close together with average of $8,708 in three theaters and $8,634 in one theater respectively. Bye Bye Germany struggled with an average of just $2,437 in two theaters over the weekend for a four-day average of $3,349. Beirut was the widest limited release of the week playing in 755 theaters earning an average of $2,297 over the weekend. Its five-day average was just $2,822. Nana missed the Mendoza Line with $1,240 in its one theater. Finally, there’s Marrowbone, which was much, much worse at just $89 in seven theaters; however, it was playing on Video on Demand, so its box office numbers were never going to be important. That said, one has to assume it cost more to send the film to theaters, even digitally.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:
