International Box Office: Never Say Die Falls, but Still Wins with $30 million
October 19, 2017
Never Say Die remained in first place on the international chart with $30 million over the weekend for a three-week total of $281 million. Almost all of that has come from China, where it made $29.74 million this weekend for a total of $278.99 million. By the end of the weekend, it was less than $1 million away from overtaking Meet the Fockers as the biggest Comedy hit in any one single market. It got there on Monday.
Blade Runner 2049 remained in second place with $27.24 million on 13,650 screens in 81 markets for total of $95.65 million internationally and $156.62 million worldwide. The film’s biggest new market was South Korea, where it earned $1.25 million on 663 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $1.74 million. Its biggest market overall was the U.K., where it added $4.12 million on 653 screens over the weekend to its running tally, which now sits at $16.21 million after two weeks of release.
Bad Genius was next with $17.07 million over the weekend and $17.12 million including previews. This was enough to place third in both its native China and internationally.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle slipped to fourth place with $15.6 million in 66 markets for totals of $197.0 million internationally and $286.7 million worldwide. The film is still well behind the original, but it has made enough to pay for its production budget and should break even early in its home market run.
It rounded out the top five with $10.4 million in 65 markets on 5,185 screens for totals of $315.7 million internationally and $630.6 million worldwide. The film has yet to open in Italy and Japan, so it isn’t quite done, meaning it could hit $700 million before it is done.
