Theater Averages: River Runs Away with $40,390
August 9, 2017
The Weinstein Co. is breathing a huge sign of relief as Wind River had the best theater average of the weekend with $40,390 in four theaters. This is the fourth best average of the year behind The Big Sick (average of $84,315 in five); The Beguiled ($57,323 in four); and Beauty and the Beast ($41,508 in just over 4,200). Wolf Warriors 2 saw its theater average grow to $15,843. The final film in the $10,000 club was Columbus, which earned an average of $13,410 in two theaters.
The rest of the new limited releases ranged from okay to awful. Step was the best of the rest with an average of $5,051 in 29 theaters. This isn’t bad for a documentary. Jab Harry met Sejal was the largest limited release of the week earning $1.28 million in 280 theaters for an average of $4,588. We Love You, Sally Carmichael was very close behind with an average of $4,401 in seven theaters. 4 Days if France struggled with $3,728 in just one theater. However, this is miles ahead of the next two films. Brave New Jersey only managed an average of $1,008 in 14 theaters. It was playing on VOD, so that’s a mitigating circumstance. Likewise, It’s Not Yet Dark was also playing on VOD and it only earned an average of $406 in two theaters.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:
