Thursday Night Previews: Is Patriots Day Going Bye Bye with $560,000?
January 13, 2017
Patriots Day earned $560,000 from 2,000 theaters during its Thursday previews. This is less than half of what Hidden Figures made last week. Worse still, Patriots Day’s target audience should be more likely to go see a film’s previews than Hidden Figures’ target audience would be. That said, it is still a holiday weekend and it should bounce back over the next few days. I think it will miss our predictions, but it should come close with about $19 million.
We also have numbers for The Bye Bye Man, which earned $400,000. That’s not a bad result for this time of year. Its reviews have risen to 24% positive, which is saying very little. Overall, I don’t think we need to adjust our prediction of just under $10 million.
More numbers arrived and none of them are good. Sleepless pulled in $410,000 on Thursday, but its reviews are the worst of the new releases / expansions at just 18% positive. We predicted $9 million and we are sticking with that figure, although we might have to adjust it lower tomorrow.
Live by Night made $325,000 last night, which is a full $1 million less than The Accountant made last year. It also has worse reviews, much stronger competition, and a $65 million budget. If it weren’t for Monster Trucks, it would be the biggest bomb of the weekend.
Speaking of Monster Trucks, the film did not have previews last night, so there are no numbers to report.
