Home Market Releases for November 29th, 2016
November 28, 2016
Last week was the week of Black Friday / Cyber Monday, so the massive sales scared away top-notch releases. This week is the week after Black Friday / Cyber Monday and the new releases are even worse. There are a few midlevel releases, like Don’t Breathe or Pete’s Dragon, but the the size of the release quickly drops from there. Fortunately, both of those releases are very good and on even really busy weeks would be contenders for Pick of the Week. It was a close pick between the two, but in the end, I went with Don’t Breathe as Pick of the Week.

Video on Demand
This movie isn’t bad and most fans of the show will like it. However, it is not as good as the original TV series was and if you expect it will be, you will be very disappointed. Extras include making of / behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scene, outtakes, and more. It is worth picking up for fans of the show, but keep expectations in check.
This is just last year’s set, without the fancy light-up packaging. Also, $60 for three movies, all 26 episodes of the animated series, and some additional extras isn’t a bargain.

If you are making a live-action film aimed at pre-teens or younger, do not spend more than $50 million making it. The odds of earning enough to recoup a budget bigger than that are very small. That said, if you have kids in the right age range for this film, it is worth picking up. Extras include five making of / behind-the-scene featurettes, which is enough to add to its overall value, but not enough to be a contender for Pick of the Week.
This came out on DVD in May. It is a great TV movie and the sequel airs on Wednesday. If you didn’t buy the DVD because you were holding out for the Blu-ray, now is the perfect time to grab it.
Video on Demand
One of the best horror movies of the year. It is about a home invasion where the victim is blind. Only, we watch it from the perspective of the thieves and learn the “victim” isn’t the good guy in this film. Extras include an audio commentary track, deleted scenes, and a handful of featurettes. Easily worth picking up and a contender for Pick of the Week.
Video on Demand
The first season is bad and I didn’t bother getting the other seasons to review. I’m a little surprised it lasted five seasons.

A remake of the 1977 film of the same name. The reviews were excellent, but the film struggled at the box office, at least internationally. Had the movie done as well internationally as it did domestically, then it would have broken even before it reached the home market. As it is now, it will need to be a big hit on the home market to break even any time soon. Extras include an audio commentary track, making of featurettes, behind-the-scenes, outtakes, and more. Definitely worth picking up and a contender for Pick of the Week.
A TV mini-series about the history of recorded music from the start of Rock and Roll till today. The reviews are mostly good and the DVD and Blu-ray have half-an-hour of extra interviews. Worth picking up.
Video on Demand: Theatrical Release and Extended Edition
The D.C. Extended Universe is a mess right now. Can Suicide Squad turn things around? Or will fans of D.C. have to wait till Wonder Woman comes out to see a good D.C. film? Read our review to find out.
According to Amazon.com, this is one of the ten best-selling new releases of the week. Most weeks, a release like this wouldn’t even be considered for filler in the secondary Blu-ray releases below. That’s how shallow this week is. On a side note, in the Amazon description, Taboo 3 is described as, “a thought provoking story...” No it’s not. No thought went into making this movie and no thought will be provoked watching it. It’s porn that is pretending to be more than that.
Video on Demand
A terrible animated movie that bombed in theaters. Even if you have kids in the right target demographic, there are better out there.
