DVD Rentals - Blades Leads a Quartet of New Releases
September 9, 2007
There was only one new release to reach the top five this week, or the top ten for that matter, as Blades of Glory opened with $9.47 million in rentals.
This pushed Wild Hogs into second place with $5.12 million for the week and $22.87 million in total. Perfect Stranger actually rose from fifth to third with $4.64 million for the week and $9.97 million after two, but that is still disappointing given the star power. Vacancy remained in fourth place earning $4.60 million and with $16.50 million in rentals so far, it won't be long before it makes more than it did theatrically. Finally, Fracture managed to grab fifth place with $4.55 million for a three-week total of $16.80 million.
There were three other new releases to chart this week led by Kickin' It Old Skool, but with just $1.93 million in 16th place, led might not be the right word. Heroes - The Complete First Season placed 22nd with $1.46 million, which is impressive for TV on DVD. Finally, Year of the Dog opened in 39th place with $720,000, which is about half of what it made theatrically.
