Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of January 25, 2008
January 26, 2008
The last week in January isn't a great time to release a movie, and the quality of the sites reflects this. That said, the best of this week's list, Rambo - Official Site - is worthy of recognition and the winner of the Weekly Website Award.
4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days - Official Site
The Air I Breathe - Official Site
Alice's House - No Official Site
Lost in Beijing - No Office Site
Meet the Spartans - Official Site
Rambo - Official Site
Sunday - Official Site
The Trailer Park Boys: The Movie - No Official Site
U2 3D - Official Site
Untraceable - Official Site
The official site is a Blog, but it has all of the usual information. (Just a note, the Blog is in ... not French. At first I thought it was French, but I don't know what language it is. It could be in any number of languages I don't know enough to recognize, which includes English at times.)
One of a few sites on this week's list that are without bios. Strange. They do have four clips and some clips from the soundtrack, but nothing that makes it stand out.
No site for the North American release, but the original site does have an English section.
Yet another release with no official site.
There are no bios on this site. I guess nobody wanted their names attached to it. The highlight of the site is the Space Invaders clone, but I lost interest in that long before I done. Overall it is too small to be effective.
All of the usual information is here (synopsis, production notes, cast & crew bios, images, and trailers). There are also several extras starting with jungle evasion strategies (if this is of any use to any readers, your life is a lot more interesting than mine), instruments of force about the weapons Rambo uses in the movie, a look at the enemy compound, and even a target practice game. There are a couple issues, firstly, the clips are still marked coming soon. Secondly, the menu system for the extras (scrolling through the jungle scenes) takes too long to get from one end to the other. However, that's not a big enough complaint to prevent the film from winning the fossilized Weekly Website Award.
Like many Bollywood movies sites (those that have sites), this one has a strong emphasis on the music and has more animation than most sites do. On the other hand, I don't think it will sell the movie outside the film's niche audience.
The original site is gone, there is apparently no replacement.
This feels like a small site, but there are some interesting points here including the audio clips of several U2 songs and the video clips.
Is it ironic that a movie about the internet has such an ineffective website? The synopsis is here, so are some images and the trailer, as well as a downloadable press kit. There's also a short game, and information on cybercrime, none of which sells the movie very well.
