DVD Rentals - Rental Chart Stands Still
April 29, 2009
There were only two new releases to reach the top 30 on the rental chart this week, meaning there was not a lot of movement to report. The Day the Earth Stood Still remained in first place with a third more rentals than The Spirit, which opened in second place.
Marley and Me was close behind, as was Seven Pounds and Slumdog Millionaire. Just missing the top five was The Reader, as the film opened in sixth place.
Total rentals declined 6.8% from last week to $140.9 million. This was 18.2% lower than the same week last year, and that was the worst year-to-year declines we've seen in months.
