Exit Enters Top Spot on the Per Theater Chart

April 27, 2010

During the second weekend of its release, Exit Through the Gift Shop rose to the top spot on the per theater chart, with an average of $13,356 in 11 theaters. The Secret in Their Eyes was the only other film in the $10,000 club, with an average of $10,911 in 33 theaters for its sophomore stint. In both cases, some further expansion is likely.

None of the new limited releases reached $10,000 on the per theater chart, but In My Sleep came close with $9,285 in one theater. Best Worst Movie opened with $5,503, also in one theater, while The Good, the Bad, the Weird was close behind with $4,775 per theater. Behind the Burly Q was a little soft, with $3,958 in one theater, although it might be able to book a few more theaters over the coming weeks. Paper Man was even weaker with an average of just $2,871 in three theaters, but at least it topped the Mendoza Line. Boogie Woogie was not as lucky, opening with just $1,776 in one theater. At least its struggles at the box office yielded a patriotic box office number.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • City Island reached $1 million over the weekend and it should have no trouble getting to $2 million before long.
  • The Runaways topped $3 million in the past week, but it probably won't get to $4 million.
