Synopsis

To an outsider, the Taylors are the very picture of the successful American family: a tenured professor on track to become university president, son Michael is a prolific and well-known romance novelist, daughter Ryne is poised to enter a prestigious law school, and on the day we are introduced to them, matriarch Lisa will graduate from college—decades after leaving to raise her children. But when a serious accident interrupts the celebration, the far more nuanced reality of this Midwestern family’s history and relationships come to light.

February 7th, 2012

The biggest release of the week on the home market is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1, which comes out on DVD and Blu-ray ... on Saturday. So you still have a few more days to wait. Per Theater Chart Shows Some Skin

October 18th, 2011

There was only one film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart this weekend. The Skin I Live In had a big name director, big name star, excellent reviews, and a lot of buzz thanks to a controversial plot. This added up to an opening of $233,000 in six theaters for an average of $37,187. This suggests it will perform very well on the art house circuit, but this is a film that will never play to wide audiences. More...

Will Limited Releases get Under Your Skin?

October 14th, 2011

There are quite a few limited releases coming out this week that have earned advance buzz, or have casts with strong name recognition, or are earning strong reviews. There are a few that have two, but only one film has all three. The Skin I Live In is the lone film to earn the trifecta, but this film has a difficult premise to overcome if it wants to earn any real measure of mainstream success. Perhaps some of the other films will mange to translate buzz into ticket sales, but that rarely lasts long. More...
