According to Amazon.com, the best-selling release of the week is True Blood: Season Two on DVD while the Blu-ray is the second best selling release. I'm not saying it's a bad deal; in fact, it is a contender for Pick of the Week. However, for a TV on DVD to top the chart probably means sales for other titles will be quite weak. Other contenders for Pick of the Week include Leverage: Season Two and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. All three releases win that coveted title, but if I were forced to pick just one of them, I would go with True Blood: Season Two on Blu-ray. The flashbacks in the Picture-in-Picture track are just such a cool idea that it wins the tie-breaker.

Breakfast with Scot tells the story of two gay men in a committed relationship who suddenly find themselves the parents of a young boy. This film is unique, as it had the permission of the NHL to use official logos of the league and the Toronto Maple Leafs in the movie. This is the first time a professional sports league has given permission to use its logo, name, etc. for a film with a homosexual theme. Although I do feel the need to point out that they used the Toronto Maple Leafs and it seems wrong to say the words "Maple Leafs" and "professional" in the same sentence. (Before you start sending hate mail to me, I feel your pain, as my Canucks were recently eliminated in the second round. It will be another year without a shave or a haircut... it's a long story.)

We're still in that no-man's land for the home market: it's way too late to take advantage of the Christmas shopping season and it's still too early for most Awards Season releases to be on shelves.
There are a few wide releases coming out this week, but only one of them, The Informant!, is worth buying on either DVD or Blu-ray. The best release of the week, and the winner of our Pick of the Week honor, is The Damned United, which is worth picking up on DVD or Blu-ray. Meanwhile, Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day - Blu-ray earns the coveted and rarely-awarded Puck of the Week.

There are plenty of sites on this week's list, but the best of these sites are only above average and none of them rise to the level of an award worthy site. Hopefully next week will be better.

A rather mixed bag of limited releases this week with a couple that were pushed back from earlier, wide releases and a couple of busted Oscar bait movies. This leaves only a handful of movies worth checking out, including a pair of documentaries: I for India and What Would Jesus Buy?.
