Last week, four Christmas themed releases from Nickelodeon came out, three of which I've previously reviewed. However, those three are getting new releases as "Holiday Gifts" with special bonuses. The new release is...

Next week there are three films opening wide: Broken City, The Last Stand, and Mama. All three of them appear to be on track for a $15 million to $20 million opening, and none of them appear to be runaway favorites for top spot. To pick the target film for this week's box office prediction contest, I flipped a coin and Mama came out on top. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Mama.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Winx Club: The Secret of the Lost Kingdom Movie on DVD.
Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will also win a copy of Winx Club: The Secret of the Lost Kingdom Movie on DVD.
Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

This is not a really slow week on the home market this week, as we have The Lorax coming out, and it was the highest-grossing animated film of the year, until Brave overtook is very recently, so it should be a big seller on the home market. Unfortunately, it is the only major release of the week. There are some other releases worth checking out, a few worth picking up, but very few that are contenders for Pick of the Week. High Fidelity is a great movie, but its Blu-ray debut is Shovelware. Personally, I think Spaceballs is really underrated, but this is not the first time it has been released on Blu-ray and double-dips are rarely Pick of the Week material. In the end, I'm going with My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic: Royal Pony Wedding, because I liked the first DVD release more than I thought I would.

Winx Club is an Italian TV series that has been on the air since 2004. It is a large enough hit that after the third season, a movie was released theatrically there, Winx Club: The Secret of the Lost Kingdom Movie. The show has also been dubbed and edited for American audiences and now it is coming out on DVD. Is the movie / TV show worth checking out? And is the DVD worth picking up?

This includes France where it pulled in $1.10 million on 320 screens while lifting its running tally to $3.37 million in that market.

Bee Movie returned to the charts in sixth place with $6.71 million on 1288 screens in 11 markets for an early international total of $19.43 million after a month of release. This includes a pair of first place debuts in Spain and Mexico. In the former it earned $2.81 million on 421 screens while in the latter is earned $2.60 million on 389 screens. While Spain is the larger marker, I thought the family friendly nature of Mexico would give it the edge. Even so, there are great openings for the film.
