DVD Releases for December 26th and 27th, 2005

December 27th, 2005

It's a relatively strong week for DVD releases with several contenders for DVD Pick of the Week. This shouldn't be too surprising since Boxing Week sales have become much more important in recent years. However, it is still not as strong as it has been in the past several weeks and there are also a lot of releases that look like they are simply being dumped on the market. In the end, Toy Story 2 - 2-Disc Special Edition was the clear choice for DVD Pick of the Week, but there are some others worth picking up. One last note, some DVDs were released yesterday to take full advantage of the Boxing Week sales and this list includes them as well. More...

There were three films in the $10,000 club this weekend, all of them holdovers. Last week's winner, Broken Flowers, again finished first despite a sizeable increase in its theatre count. Flowers won't go Broke

Last week's winner, The Aristocrats took a tumble losing 56% of its per theatre average falling to third place with $26,609. Rounding out the $10,000 club was Junebug, which just snagged a spot with a $10,677 per theatre average. More...

Nothing Limited About This Week's Selection

August 5th, 2005

The market is overflowing with limited releases, almost a dozen film debut this weekend and five of them are opening in two dozen theatres or more. With that much competition it might be difficult for any one film to attract enough attention to succeed. Which is a shame since many of the films are highly praised and deserve to be seen by a wide audience. More...
