2020 - Awards Season: Golden Globes Winners

The Golden Globes winners were announced on Sunday and we have some interesting developments for the rest of Awards Season. 1917 wasn’t considered a front-runner with five films earning more nominations. However, after this result, it might be the front-runner to become the big winner on Oscar night.

The categories and winners are...

BEST MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA

• 1917

• Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

• Sam Mendes for 1917

• Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

• Renée Zellweger for Judy

• Joaquin Phoenix for Joker

• Taron Egerton for Rocketman

• Awkwafina for The Farewell

• Laura Dern for Marriage Story

• Brad Pitt for Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

• Missing Link

• Parasite

• Hildur Guðnadóttir for Joker

• “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” from Rocketman

• Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood earned three wins, which is more than any other movie. However, 1917’s two wins were a lot more prestigious and I would consider it the big winner of the night.
• Joker and Rocketman also both earned two wins, but again, their wins came in less prestigious categories.
• Missing Link won for Best Animated film... Wow. I was not expecting that. I’m not upset with this win, but it was by far the smallest film nominated, so I thought not enough voters would have seen it enough to win.
• Renée Zellweger won for Judy. Give her the damn Oscar already.
