Theater Averages: Godzilla has No One to Battle on the Theater Average Chart
June 6, 2019
It was a bad week on the theater average chart with only one film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, in the $10,000 club. That film earned an average of $11,630 during its opening weekend. The best limited release was Echo in the Canyon with an average of $6,915 in 14 theaters during its second weekend of release. The best new limited release was Mayday Life with an average of $5,971 in 8 theaters.
The best of the rest of the new limited releases was Leaving Home, Coming Home, which earned $4,248 in one theater over the weekend for a five-day opening of $6,643. Both Free Trip to Egypt and Yomeddine missed the Mendoza Line with $1,718 in one theater and an average of $1,003 in four theaters respectively.
The only film to hit a milestone this past weekend was Penguins, which reached $7.5 million. Even that seems like a cheat, because the movie wasn’t a true limited release. Summer is here, so hopefully there won’t be any dry spells like this for a while.
