Home Market Releases for April 5th, 2016
April 5, 2016
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits the home market this week. Needless to say, there are very few other new releases that are tempted to compete with the highest grossing domestic hit of all time. The only other release that is a contender for Pick of the Week is Casual: Season One on DVD. I'm still waiting for the screener for that show, so The Force Awakens is the clear winner of Pick of the Week.

I'm hoping to get a screener for this TV show. The reviews are fantastic They are good enough to be a contender for Pick of the Week.
This show is still earning stunning reviews, but I've also heard a lot of long-time fans complaining that it is starting to feel stale. If the latter complaint grows, then I think there needs to be a shake-up in the writing staff.

I reviewed the first two seasons of this show and liked it. However, I only have so much time in a week to get work done, so I had to pass on the last two seasons.

This TV show is set about 200 years in the future, where the human race has colonized the solar system; however, this has caused the solar system to become fragmented and there's a war brewing. The reviews are very good. On the other hand, the only extras are some deleted scenes, which isn't good. I would stick with VOD instead of buying on DVD or Blu-ray.
An Anime title in the top ten best-selling new releases on Amazon.com. It is rare that this happens, but Ghost in the Shell is a popular franchise.
I reviewed one season of this show and that was enough for me.
One of the few Anime franchises that routinely appears on this list.
Normally I don't mention TV on DVD releases for shows that ended a decade ago, but it is a slow week.
I love the original movie and the TV show. I'm kind of interested in seeing this show to see how it compares; however, the reviews are a big warning sign to stay away.
An Australian soap opera set in the 1950s. It did well enough to earn a two-season renewal last year, so there are clearly plenty of fans of the show.
This is the first original series for WGN America. Its reviews have been mixed, but its ratings are strong enough to get a third season.

Can a movie that smashed box office record live up to the hype? Or is it time to admit that maybe we got carried away? If you want to avoid any spoiler... for this film, check out our Ranking. For more in-depth analysis, check out our review.
Joy is the biggest VOD release of the week and given its reviews, it makes sense to watch it on VOD instead of buying it on Blu-ray.
There are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but the film has five doves from the Dove Foundation, so its target audience should be pleased.
