Limited and VOD Releases: These Limited Releases Won't Die
December 18, 2015
It's not a long list this week, but there are a few films worth checking out. Topping that list is Son of Saul, which could win an Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film. Also worth checking out are He Never Died and The Lady in the Car with Glasses and A Gun.

Video on Demand
A documentary starring Russell Brand. It is about the 2008 financial crisis and the growing income inequality in general. The reviews are mostly good with a lot of critics saying this is an important subject, but that Russell Brand is a little too in your face for such a serious topic. Even so, it is still worth a VOD rental at the least.

Henry Rollins plays a loner with a secret, he's a cannibal. He's not a cannibal by choice, he's driven to do so for reason not made clear right away and is a social recluse as a result. One day, he hears from an ex-girlfriend that he has a daughter, Jordan Todosey, and that she wants to meet her father. I've been hearing good things about this movie for a while and I'm happy it is finally coming out. The reviews are great, but it is playing on VOD, so its box office chances are very weak. That said, it could do well on the home market.
Video on Demand
I've heard some good buzz about this movie and the early reviews live up to that buzz. It is about a woman, played by Freya Mavor, who steals her boss's car and goes on a joyride. She winds up in a small town she's never been in, but everyone there knows her. While dealing with this mystery, she finds a body in the trunk of her boss's car. If you want to see a movie this week, but are scared away by the crowds, check this one out on VOD.
A Jean-Luc Godard film from the 1960s. It is about a man who leaves his family to be with his ex-girlfriend. A crime spree ensues. It is already out on Video on Demand, so if you can't see it in theaters, you can watch it at home.
This film is earning the best buzz of any film on this week's list. Its reviews are amazing and it is a Hungarian official entry for the Best Foreign-Language Oscar. It even made the short list for this year's Oscars. This level of buzz should help it do well in limited release, but it is a foreign-language film and these rarely find any level of mainstream success. There's also a huge amount of competition for screens this weekend.
Normally we don't include films with no reviews here, but this film did earn first place in China last weekend, so it will be interesting to see if it can find an audience in limited release here.
