Home Market Numbers: March 17th, 2013: Guardians Can't Protect Winning Streak
April 29, 2013
While there were lots of new releases boosting the Blu-ray sales chart, including top ranked Rise of the Guardians, it wasn't enough to keep the Blu-ray ahead in the week-over-week comparison. Granted, it only declined 12% in terms of units and 21% in terms of revenue, which isn't too bad. Year-over-year, Blu-ray sales skyrocketed up 102% in terms of units and 79% in terms of revenue, which is fantastic. The overall Blu-ray share was again very strong at 36% in terms of units and 44% in terms of revenue.
This week's DVD sales fell compared to last week and last year. DVD sales fell faster than Blu-ray sales fell when compared to last week at 22% in terms of units and 21% in terms of revenue. It held on better compared to last year down 14% in terms of units and 11% in terms of revenue.
Next week's new releases include The Hobbit, Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, and more. It should be an incredible week. Last year's new releases were not as strong. The Muppets is a great movie and earned first place on the DVD and Blu-ray sales charts, but it wasn't a massive hit. 2013 should destroy 2012 in the year-over-year comparison.
