We are about to enter the summer blockbuster season, which is great for box office numbers, not so good for the home market. In fact, it is arguably the weakest time of the year for DVD sales. Looking at this week's list, that's not a huge surprise. There are no first run releases that are must haves, nor are there are lot of smaller releases to pick up the slack. The clear DVD Pick of the Week is Star Trek - The Original Series - Season One - Blu-ray, which is better than the previous HD DVD release. Also worth picking up is One-Eyed Monster on DVD, but that has a more limited target audience. While there's not a lot on the top, there's plenty of bulk, so much so we need a second page, which can be found here.

Not much in the way of first run releases this week, but we do have more Awards Season players coming out on the home market. However, if you want the best of the best, you have to look to Sin City - 2-Disc Blu-ray. This week's list was a little too big to fit on one page, so the second part can be found here.

Technical difficulties with Amazon's site meant this column was a lot harder to get done than usual. However, I won't hold that against this week's releases, and there are a number that are worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week from practically every category. TV on DVD has Andy Richter Controls the Universe - The Complete Series, from the classics we have The Odd Couple - Centennial Collection, from new releases we have Bolt - Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, Blu-ray offers us James Bond Blu-ray Collection - Volume 3. We even have a late entry, as Let the Right One In - Blu-ray arrived. All five are worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week, but if I was forced to chose just one, Bolt - Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack would probably please the most people. After a couple of "slow" weeks, we are back to splitting the column into two parts. The second part can be found here.

The $10,000 club was a little more crowded than expected with a few surprise entries, but there was no surprise on top. Not only did Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull top the overall box office chart, it also came in first place on the per theater average chart with $23,507 over the three-day weekend, and nearly $30,000 over four. The Edge of Heaven opened with $18,593 in one theater, which is made even more impressive since it opened on a Wednesday. War, Inc. opened to weak reviews, but managed a surprisingly strong per theater average of $17,668. The final film in the $10,000 club was A Jihad for Love with $10,519 over three days and $17,284 including its box office over Wednesday and Thursday.

Another week with just one massive release dominating the box office. This time around it is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which as expected, has the best site this week. However, the best of the week is still not enough to justify giving it the Weekly Website Award.

Only half a dozen films on this week's list, and only half of those are earning good reviews, and none seem likely to expand beyond their limited beginnings. That said, we've yet to have a sleeper hit this year, and maybe one of these movies will surprise.
