Theater Averages: Endgame more than Doubles the Competition

Avengers: Endgame remained on top spot on the theater average chart with an average of $31,614. This isn’t that far behind Captain Marvel’s $35,599 average it earned during its opening weekend. The only other member of the $10,000 club was Doubles vies, which is French for Two Vies. ... It’s been a while since I made a joke that bad and I’m not apologizing. That film earned an average of $14,927 in two theaters.

The rest of the new limited releases had a wide range of results, with Meeting Gorbachev on the high end. That film nearly reached the $10,000 club with an average of $9,064 in two theaters. Shadow has a solid opening with an average of $6,869 in four theaters. On the other hand, Always Miss You struggled with an average of $3,337 in 14 theaters. Mother of a Day only earned $2,672 in its lone theater. Savage just missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,926 in 19 theaters. El Chicano was much weaker with an average of just $1,157 in over 600 theaters. Ask Dr. Ruth only managed an average of $895 in just over 100 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • High Life got to $1 million before the weekend, but that’s as far as it will go.
  • Penguins reached $6 million before the weekend, but it too will go no further.
