Synopsis

At the beginning of World War II a hostile chance encounter in the skies above the harsh Norwegian wilderness leaves two aircraft - one British, one German - shot down in a remote and isolated region. By strange coincidence the crews seek shelter in the same cabin. They must battle to survive the brutal winter in order to get back to the war – and to fighting one another. Although war has made them enemies, as the days go by animosity proves hard to maintain. Mutual need leads to unlikely friendships, and the rules of war must be put aside.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for June 25th, 2013

June 24th, 2013

It's summer time. Long time readers know what that means for the home market. It's bad news. There are a couple of first-run releases to come out: The Call and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The former was a solid midlevel hit earning more than $50 million on a $13 million budget. The latter bombed. Neither one is a contender for Pick of the Week. There are a couple limited releases that might rise to that level, but I think the best release is Todd & the Book of Pure Evil: The Complete Second Season on DVD. Unfortunately, the screener arrived late so I haven't had a chance to review it, and I hate handing out that honor when till after I give the screener a full review. Fortunately, there is a screener that arrived late that is worth that honor: My Neighbor Totoro on Blu-ray. More...

Per Theater Chart: New Releases Strike Out

April 16th, 2013

There were no films able to reach the $10,000 club on this week's per theater average. However, while this is disappointing, it is not uncommon for this time of year. The best film was 42, which not only opened in first place on the overall chart, but also earned first place on the per theater average chart with an average of $9,153. The best limited release of the week was Disconnect, which earned an average of $8,240 in 15 theaters. More...

Limited Releases: Will New Limited Releases be a Disaster?

April 12th, 2013

There are nine limited releases on this week's list, including two opening in Canada. Of those, there are only a few with any buzz or strong reviews. To the Wonder is the most buzz-worthy, but the reviews will hurt it. It's a Disaster has good reviews and a great cast for a limited release, but its genre will hold it back. The Angel's Share likely won't have the best opening, but it should have the better legs than To the Wonder thanks to impressive reviews. More...
