DVD Rentals - Wolverine Cuts Down the Competition

September 29th, 2009

There were not as many new releases to reach the top 30 on this week's rental chart as there were on the sales chart, but the same film topped both. X-Men Origins - Wolverine earned first place with more than 2.5 times as many rentals as State of Play, which was pushed into second place after two weeks on top. More...

DVD Releases for September 15th, 2009 - Part I

September 15th, 2009

The Christmas shopping season starts early this year, as it seems to do every year. Only 15 days into September we have the first summer blockbuster of the year coming out. While X-Men Origins - Wolverine will easily be the biggest release of the week, it won't be the best. I think the best selections out there are from the TV on DVD categories, which is common this time of year, and I would rank Sanctuary - Season One and Transformers - Season Two - Volume One as the best of the best and both are my DVD Picks of the Week. There are a large number of spotlight reviews, including a trio that arrived late, so the list had to be split into two. The second part can be found here. More...

Weekend Box Office Ends Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell

May 18th, 2009

There were mixed results at the weekend box office as Angels and Demons missed the low end of most analysts' expectations, which led to an 8% decline in box office numbers from last weekend. However, at $137 million, it was up 4.2% from the same weekend last year. Year-to-date, 2009 has brought in $3.62 billion compared to last year's pace of $3.13 billion, which is an increase of close to 16%. More...
