Home Market Releases for July 9th, 2019

July 11th, 2019

Alphaville

It’s a very shallow week on the home market. There are two wide releases, but neither are worth picking up. There were several that are worth owning: Dead of Night, Mothra: SteelBook Edition, Silent Hill: Collectors Edition, and This Island Earth: Blu-ray. However, there was only one true contender for Pick of the Week, Alphaville: Special Edition. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: These Releases will Hold Your Attention

January 25th, 2019

Never Look Away

It is not a good week for limited releases. The biggest release is BlacKkKlansman, which is getting a re-release this week. King of Thieves is the biggest new release in terms of buzz, but The Image Book and Never Look Away have better reviews. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: These Limited Releases Won't Die

December 18th, 2015

Son of Saul

It's not a long list this week, but there are a few films worth checking out. Topping that list is Son of Saul, which could win an Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film. Also worth checking out are He Never Died and The Lady in the Car with Glasses and A Gun. More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April 14, 2015

April 14th, 2015

It is a slow week on the home market. It is a really slow week on the home market. This should have helped me get caught up on all of the late screeners that arrived, but on Saturday I had a coughing fit and heard a loud crack in my ribs. It hurt so much that I couldn't even type. I'm feeling much better now. As for this week's releases, there are none that will likely be huge sellers, but The Babadook on DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack is the best and the best-selling, at least according to Amazon.com. It is also the Pick of the Week. More...

Limited Releases: From A to Z

October 31st, 2014

Horns poster

It's a really bad week for limited releases. There are only three films earning overwhelmingly positive reviews, but two of them are documentaries and the other is an experimental 3D film, so their chances of earning some measure of mainstream success are nearly zero. The most prominent new release on this week's list is Horns, but its reviews, its genre, and the fact that it is playing on Video on Demand suggests it won't find an audience in theaters. More...

Limited Releases: Cash for Limited Releases

February 7th, 2014

Kids for Cash poster

It's another busy week for limited releases with more than a dozen of them on this week's list. This does mean I'm not going to be as talkative about each individual film, because there are just so many of them. Fortunately, there are also a few that are worth checking out, like Vic + Flo Saw a Bear, Alphaville, etc. If I were to chose just one film, it would be Kids for Cash, but the subject matter will enrage you.
